On March 8, 2025, we raise our voices in celebration of women across the globe, especially Sudanese women, who courageously endure the horrors and devastation of war. On this day, we renew our commitment to defending women’s rights, advocating for their just causes, and empowering them to play an active role in building a Sudan rooted in peace, democracy, and justice.
This day arrives amid a grim reality for Sudanese women, who bear the brunt of a relentless and devastating war. Women have been among its greatest victims, enduring severe hardships and catastrophic consequences. Sexual violence has been weaponized in this brutal conflict, targeting even young girls as young as seven-a blatant violation of their humanity and fundamental rights. Tragically, survivors are not only left traumatized but also denied justice, medical care, and psychological and social support, further deepening their suffering.
At the Nubian Center for Peace and Democracy, we strongly condemn these heinous crimes against women. We hold all warring parties fully accountable for protecting civilians, prosecuting those responsible for sexual violence, and ending the war immediately to preserve the dignity and lives of women.
Sudanese women have paid the heaviest price for this war. Millions have been displaced, many stranded in refugee camps under desperate conditions, facing a catastrophic humanitarian crisis that demands urgent intervention and decisive action to save the lives of innocent women and children.
On this day, we reaffirm that recognizing women’s role is not a choice but a historical and moral obligation. At the Nubian Center for Peace and Democracy, we firmly believe in women’s right to leadership and fair representation in all institutions. We are dedicated to enhancing their awareness and capabilities to ensure their rightful and effective participation in shaping the country’s future. A just and lasting peace cannot be achieved without their full inclusion. Women’s empowerment in politics, society, and the economy is a fundamental prerequisite for ending conflicts and securing stability in Sudan.
We extend our deepest respect and pride to every Sudanese woman who has carried the torch of resistance, refused submission, and stood against oppression. We call on regional and international communities, humanitarian organizations, feminist movements, and human rights groups to stand in solidarity with Sudanese women and support them in facing the grave challenges that threaten their lives and futures.
