Kampala Declaration .. Condemning the War and Calling for Negotiations.

In the midst of the ongoing war in Sudan since April 15, 2023, we, the undersigned representatives of Sudanese civil society organizations based in Kampala, Uganda, express our deep concern over the humanitarian disasters resulting from this war. Over the past fifteen months, we have witnessed unprecedented loss of life, massive displacement, severe destruction of vital infrastructure and the threat of famine threatening millions.
Despite these horrific circumstances, we appreciate the concerted efforts to initiate immediate and rapid procedures that begin to find a formula for delivering humanitarian assistance to alleviate the suffering of the affected population; and thus pave the way for reaching a peaceful political settlement. We appreciate the role of the initiatives led by IGAD, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United States of America, the Neighboring Countries Initiative under the leadership of Egypt, and the efforts of the African Union to lead a future political process; in addition to the ongoing humanitarian aid delivery efforts in Geneva.
However, it is clear that Sudanese civil society has not been adequately represented in all previous endeavors. Accordingly, we commend the important role played by Sudanese civil society, which has actively contributed to humanitarian efforts and advocacy for peace during these turbulent times. While fully aware of the urgent humanitarian needs resulting from the ongoing war, and acknowledging all efforts to establish peaceful political frameworks since 15 April 2023, we strongly emphasize the need to include Sudanese civil society in any process aimed at achieving peace

From this standpoint, we call on the international and regional community to pressure the warring parties to:
• An immediate ceasefire for the purpose of delivering humanitarian aid and opening corridors.
• Unifying all peace initiatives under one platform to achieve maximum impact.
• Initiating a comprehensive peace process that brings together all warring parties, political forces and civil society.
• Ensuring the active participation of Sudanese civil society in all stages of the peace process, to ensure that citizens’ voices are heard and taken into account when shaping Sudan’s future.
