Urgent Humanitarian Appeal to Save Lives and Support Host Communities in South Sudan and Uganda
In light of the escalating humanitarian crisis and the devastating impact of the armed conflict in Sudan, we are witnessing unprecedented suffering endured by Sudanese refugees, who continue to pay the price for the ongoing conflict and destruction caused by war. According to humanitarian reports published on January 21, 2025, over one million people have fled Sudan to South Sudan, a country already grappling with Africa’s largest refugee crisis. South Sudan is hosting more than 330,000 refugees and asylum seekers, most of whom are from Sudan, alongside two million internally displaced persons affected by ongoing violence and the devastating impacts of climate change.
Recent statistics released by two United Nations agencies highlight the arrival of this large number of refugees escaping violence and conflict in Sudan to South Sudan under dire and tragic humanitarian conditions. These staggering figures underscore the magnitude of an unprecedented humanitarian crisis in the region, as Sudanese families continue to flee murder and destruction in search of safety in South Sudan and Uganda.
The plight of the displaced has not been confined to South Sudan alone. Uganda is also bearing a significant burden, hosting approximately 1.74 million refugees, including over 100,000 Sudanese refugees. With the rapid pace of this displacement, it is expected that half of these refugees will move from South Sudan to Uganda, further complicating the humanitarian situation and putting immense pressure on the limited resources of both countries.
The scale of displacement caused by the war in Sudan calls for immediate and urgent humanitarian action. This crisis demands prompt support and sustainable funding to bolster the capacities of host countries, including South Sudan and Uganda, to address the growing humanitarian pressures effectively.
The Nubian Center for Peace and Democracy urgently appeals to the international community—governments, humanitarian organizations, and regional and global entities—to intervene in this catastrophic humanitarian situation. We call for the mobilization of all resources and capabilities to save the lives of millions of refugees.
We deeply appreciate the boundless generosity demonstrated by the people of South Sudan and Uganda in hosting Sudanese refugees, despite the challenging conditions they themselves face. However, these communities cannot shoulder this burden alone. A decisive stance is needed from the international community to support these overstretched communities, prevent a devastating humanitarian disaster, and safeguard human dignity.
Through this statement, we call upon the international and regional community, particularly humanitarian organizations, to act swiftly to rescue affected families, protect the lives of children, women, and the elderly from suffering, and implement practical solutions to ensure a secure and sustainable future for refugees and host communities alike.
Let us all be part of the solution, work together to alleviate the suffering of refugees, and stand united—hand in hand—to save the lives of those who have lost everything. Let us bring hope to those who desperately need it during these critical moments.

نداء إنساني عاجل لإنقاذ الأرواح ودعم المجتمعات المضيفة في جنوب السودان وأوغندا
في ظل الأزمة الإنسانية المتفاقمة والآثار المدمرة الناتجة عن النزاع المسلح في السودان، نشهد معاناة غير مسبوقة يعاني منها اللاجئين السودانيين الذين يدفعون ثمن الصراع المستمر والدمار الذي أحدثته الحرب في السودان، حيث اكدت تقارير إنسانية نشرت في 21 يناير 2025، عن فرار أكثر من مليون شخص من السودان إلى جنوب السودان، الذي يعاني أصلاً من أزمة لجوء ضخمة هي الأكبر في إفريقيا، ويستضيف أكثر من 330,000 لاجئ وطالب لجوء، غالبيتهم من السودان، بالإضافة إلى 2 مليون نازح داخلي جراء العنف المستمر والتأثيرات المدمرة لتغير المناخ.
ومن خلال الإحصاءات الأخيرة التي أصدرتها وكالتان تابعتان للأمم المتحدة، كشفت عن وصول هذا العدد الكبير من اللاجئين الفارين من العنف والصراع في السودان، إلى جنوب السودان في ظل ظروف انسانية قاسية ومأساوية، وهذه الأرقام الصادمة تكشف حجم الأزمة الإنسانية التي لم يشهد لها مثيل في المنطقة، في وقت تواصل فيه العائلات السودانية الفرار من القتل والدمار الأمان الى جنوب السودان وأوغندا، بحثًا عن الأمان.
لم تقتصر معاناة النازحين على جنوب السودان فحسب، بل امتدت لتطال أوغندا، التي تستضيف هي الأخرى حوالي 1.74 مليون لاجئ، منهم أكثر من 100,000 لاجئ سوداني. وفي ظل هذا النزوح المتسارع، يُتوقع أن يعبر نصف هؤلاء اللاجئين من جنوب السودان إلى أوغندا، مما يزيد من تعقيد الوضع الإنساني ويزيد من الضغط على الموارد المحدودة في الدولتين.
إن حجم النزوح الناجم عن الحرب في السودان يستدعي تحركًا إنسانيًا عاجلًا، حيث تتطلب هذه الأزمة الدعم الفوري والتمويل المستدام لتعزيز قدرة البلدان المضيفة، بما في ذلك جنوب السودان وأوغندا، على مواجهة هذه الضغوط الإنسانية المتزايدة.
إن المركز النوبي للسلام والديمقراطية يناشد المجتمع الدولي من حكومات ومنظمات إنسانية وإقليمية ودولية للتدخل العاجل في هذه الكارثة الإنسانية، وتسخير جميع الإمكانيات والموارد لإنقاذ أرواح الملايين من اللاجئين.
إننا نقدر عميقًا الكرم غير المحدود الذي أظهره شعب جنوب السودان وأوغندا في استضافة اللاجئين السودانيين في ظل الظروف الصعبة التي يعانون منها، ومع ذلك، لا يمكن لتلك المجتمعات تحمل هذا العبء وحدها، نحن بحاجة إلى وقفة جادة من المجتمع الدولي لدعم هذه المجتمعات المرهقة بمسؤوليات تفوق قدرتها، ومنع حدوث كارثة إنسانية مدمرة.
إننا، من خلال هذا البيان، نناشد المجتمع الدولي والإقليمي، لا سيما المنظمات الإنسانية للعمل سريعًا، لإنقاذ الأسر المتضررة، وحماية حياة الأطفال والنساء وكبار السن من المعاناة، وإيجاد حلول عملية لضمان مستقبل آمن ومستدام للاجئين والمجتمعات المضيفة.
لنكن جميعًا جزءًا من الحل، ولنساهم في تخفيف معاناة اللاجئين، ونقف معًا، يدًا بيد، لإنقاذ حياة أولئك الذين فقدوا كل شيء، ولنعمل على تقديم الأمل لمن يحتاجه بشدة في هذه اللحظات العصيبة.
